I just finished my MS-MBA at Stanford and am thrilled to be surrounded by smart, nice people who are focused on learning & creating. I spend a lot of time learning new skills (recently Ruby On Rails and iPad development, etc) and new opportunities (ie digital media and mobile apps).

Before Stanford, I founded a SaaS web marketing and lead generation business, www.ContractorMarketingPros.com. I led the growth of this bootstrap-funded company to profitability and I continue to support our awesome management team from afar.

I am an advisor to several startups, on the board of www.SnapROI.com, and I have launched several web/mobile projects (ie www.HomeSquire.com & www.BeTheDuke.com).

Dear Mike, I am planning to apply for the MBA/MS joint degree of Stanford University. I haven’t been able to understand the previous academic requirements to be able to succeed in the program. My biggest concern is that an undergrad in science is needed to be able to understand the classes.

A little bit on my background. I studied my undergrad in finance, then worked for 2 years at McKinsey and I am now working as a strategy analyst in a solar energy start up company in Israel who basically does system integration (there is no R&D).

I was wondering if you could give me your point of view on the level of difficulty of the classes. Basically what I want to ask is, I have no technical background, will I be able to handle the classes?

Hi Shai, there is not an expectation that you have a technical background prior to the MS/MBA. One way to think about it is…if you can get into the GSB, then you can handle the MS portion. The classes are quite rigorous (lots of hours of problem sets), but you choose the classes for the MS portion of your degree and there are plenty of courses that teach you a lot without being impossible.
